Diversion

One of Kaelin’s new idiosyncrasies is complete disinterest in changing her diaper, especially when it’s poopy.

“Kaelin, do you have poopies?”

“No.”

“I think you do. I can smell it. Let’s go change your diaper.”

(running to hide in a corner) “I’m still pooping!”

“You are? Ok, we can wait a few minutes.” (a few minutes later) “Are you done yet?”

“No. I’m still pooping.”

“Kaelin, I think you’re done pooping by now.”

“No, I wanna poop some more!”

While in Seattle, she was in the car with her grandparents (whom she calls Ana and Papa) when a distinct “aroma” started emanating from her diaper.

Papa: Kaelin, are you poopy?

Kaelin: No. Ana’s poopy. Ana has poopy pants!

She’s got the diversion tactic down better than some politicians.   Watch out Hilary.

Good News

Filed under: Health...or Lack Thereof — Amy @ 10:38 pm

A couple of weeks ago, I had this mole removed, as well as a rather obvious one I’ve had on my nose since childhood.   I promised Jane I would have this done, like, a year ago.   But I wasn’t insured a year ago, and then I was lazy, and then we were moving, and then I was still lazy.   I have a dedication to Lazy, it seems.   So I’m just now getting around to it.

My dermatologist, who I hadn’t seen before, is also a Lyposculpturist.   Apparently.   Imagine my surprise when I received the appointment reminder and the caller ID read “Lyposculpture & Laser Center” – I was afraid I’d made an appointment with the wrong doctor.   But I kept the appointment anyway, because if I accidentally ended up in an appointment  that led to the  removal of my stupid  stubborn tummy bulge, then … well, accidents happen.

As it turns out, I was in the right office and the moles were removed without incident.   He did not try to sell me on lyposuction, but did inform me that apparently I have mild adult acne.   I didn’t realize that 1 or 2 stress blemishes qualified as acne, but I suppose I’m at an age where I’m supposed to be past that.   Fortunately, he really likes to give me samples so I came home with cremes and washes and a prescription just in case I like the products and want to use them.

Today I went back for my followup appointment and was told that both biopsies came back benign.   My wounds are healing pretty nicely though they’re a little red and not completely even.   He gave me more samples of cremes to take the redness away and prevent scarring.

All in all, for an experience I’ve been dreading for a year, it wasn’t so bad.

Um… Thanks?

Wow, could it be that WordPress is finally allowing me to post pictures? I dare not speak of it, lest it turn into a dream and disappear.

ANYWAY, a few weeks ago, we sent Kaelin to Seattle to spend a whole 10 days with her grandparents. She had a blast. And we enjoyed the break.

I took up a project that I am rendered completely incapable of doing when there are little fingers poking and patting every object within 3 feet of the floor: painting. I bought some pots and benches, and ended up with these:

pots11.jpg

The project was fun, and I think I’ve satisfied my crafting impulse for a few months.

While attempting to purchase my supplies however, it was confirmed to me (again) how I seem to attract the most unhelpful service employees.

While in Large Mega Craft Store, I approached an employee to find out where I could obtain a glue gun. I received the response “Crafts,” along with the non-verbal indication that she was finished with her interaction with me and our conversation was over.

Crafts??? It’s a CRAFT STORE.

With the possible exception of “Nyahhhh,” I cannot think of an answer that would be LESS. HELPFUL.

J has the same problem. While in Large Mega Hardware Store a few days earlier, he asked where to find a flashlight. The employee pointed over his shoulder to an area which encompassed … the entire store … and spouted “HARDWARE” before continuing on his way in the opposite direction.

I can see why these people don’t work in an industry where they have to depend on tips.

Irritating…

WordPress is refusing to upload pictures for me today.   Irksome, as I had lots that I was planning on sharing.

Dear Subway Customer,

If parking next to your car for five minutes with my windows closed makes the inside of my car reek of cigarette fumes, it’s a good indication that you smoke too much.

Pumpkin Patch

Filed under: Such is Life — Amy @ 12:47 pm

Today we had a playgroup date at the Pumpkin Patch.  This patch was more than just pumpkins.  There were hayrides and animals to feed and picnics to be had. Kaelin went in her Halloween costume:

She loves that Tigger suit and has been asking to wear it since we got it.  She likes to pull it out of the closet and carry it around.  She was the only one that came dressed in a costume, but she didn’t seem to notice.

We started off the outing with a hay ride.  The kids enjoyed it and the moms were busy attempting to take pictures in focus while keeping kids and cameras from flying out of the wagon … it was a pretty bumpy ride.

Next, it was time to feed the animals.  We were given a small cup of oats, which quickly disappeared into the mouths of some hungry goats.

Kaelin was rather displeased when her little cup of food was depleted and couldn’t seem to understand why she couldn’t get some more.  At that point, she was a little on the hungry and sleepy side of things and became… well, very TWO.  Fortunately, we stopped for lunch shortly thereafter which helped some.

That, and a blue plastic bracelet Valerie gave her, which provided an acceptable distraction from her general crankiness (and which we meant to return before we left but forgot, sorry Valerie!).

The last thing we did was pass through the pumpkin patch to get a pumpkin, which Kaelin was exceedingly disinterested in.

We did, however, come across a large haystack that I put her on top of in hopes of getting a picture before she had a total system meltdown.  Little did I know the goldmine I uncovered.

She was thrilled to be “so TALL!” and it got even better when she discovered she could slide down the haystack into the pile of hay at the bottom.

We even had time for a few pics with friends on top of the haystack before heading out.

When we got to the car, she immediately crashed into a much-needed nap.

The Music Pig

Filed under: Such is Life — Amy @ 7:09 am

When Kaelin came home after spending time in Seattle, she started asking to hold the “music pig.”  Having no idea what a “music pig” was, I assumed it was some toy she had played with in Seattle.

But she kept pointing at her dresser when she said it.  “The music pig, I wanna hode da music pig.”  So I took her over to her dresser and said, “What’s the music pig?  Can you point to the music pig?”

She pointed at this:

I suppose I can’t fault her.  It’s round and pink and plays music.  What else would it be?

Birthday Bash

Filed under: Such is Life — Amy @ 7:27 pm

Yesterday was Kaelin’s 2nd Birthday.  We had a small family party last night and she had a blast.  She talked all day about being “ready to go to da party” and was thrilled when I took her to get some balloons.

What’s even more fun than picking out balloons?  Hiding in them when they’re attached to the back of your chair.  Can you spot the 2-year-old?

One of Kaelin’s favorite games is “Wherrrrrrrrre’s Kaelin?”

dsc_1809_400×266.JPG

“There she is!”

dsc_1788_400×266.JPG

Thanks to some very generous family members, she now has more toys than the entire country of Sweeden.

dsc_1795_400×266.JPG

She was exceedingly joyous and appreciative of every single gift received, and wanted to play with each new item for half an hour after opening it.

Which, as you may have guessed, means it took a really long time to get through the party.

And THEN!  In addition to all these really cool presents?  There was CAKE!  And she was even allowed to EAT IT!

dsc_1836_400×266.JPG

She had spent the last full day and a half watching “Mama making a cake” (yes it took me a day and a half and I don’t want to talk about it thankyouverymuch) and constantly being told “It’s not ready yet” every time she asked if she could eat it.  But finally, her patience was rewarded.

dsc_1876_400×266.JPG

Kaelin believes that cake is the tangible evidence that God loves us and wants us to be happy.  Which is proof that at least some my teaching is sinking in.

dsc_1815_400×266.JPG

A special thanks to all the people that took part in Kaelin’s special day and truly made it a celebration to remember!  Your generosity and willingness to help was much appreciated, and Kaelin had a blast turning two.

She ended the day a very happy and very sleepy girl.  Almost as sleepy as Baby Chelsea, who had to go night-night before the party was even over.  Evidently when lacking a nearby crib, a stuffed horse makes an an adequate substitute.

About Me

Hi. I'm Amy. I started this website in 2005 as a place to deposit my journal and photos. It has gone through a few incarnations and masquerades as a family site, but since I'm the only one who contributes to it, it's really all about ME, ME, ME.
