Disapproval

While Kaelin was taking a bath yesterday, Jens came in to use the restroom and closed the door to the “potty room” for a little privacy.

“Did Daddo go in there and close the door and go potty?”

“Yes, he did.”

That naughty Daddo.”

A Story, by Kaelin

Daddo has a book on his nightstand called The Intellectual Devotional of American History.  Kaelin picked it up and sat down in the middle of the bathroom yesterday morning while we were getting ready for the day.

“I’m gonna read this to you.”

She opened the book and turned to a page in the middle.

“Once upon a time, there was a beauuuuuuuuuutiful princess, named Daddo.  He lived in a big big castle.  The End.”

He may be girly, but at least Daddo has a big house.

Dancing

I think it’s been a while since I’ve posted some Munchkin pictures on here.  This was a recent Boyz in the Sink dance session.  These take place nightly in our living room, where she boogies down and sings all the lyrics at the top of her lungs.

Kaelin is the ultimate fan, even at 2.  Sometimes she gets so excited about the music, she starts channeling front-row Beatles fans.  “BOYZ IN THE SINK YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!” (insert ear piercing screams of glee here, followed by a collapse to the floor).

Mimic

So we’re in the playroom today which also happens to house my Gazelle.  Kaelin makes the announcement that she’s going to go do some exercise and starts walking toward the machine, which she knows she’s not allowed to touch.

Before she reached it, I used my warning voice: “Kaelin, do you remember what Mama said about touching the exercise machine?”

She stops, as if considering the consequences.  Then she turns to me, and with a most sober look on her face says, “More or less.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.  So she started to laugh.  Between giggles, she says, “Mama, you say that all the time!”

I had no idea that “more or less” is one of my pet phrases… but J agrees, so apparently it’s true.

Who’d have thought?  My kid actually listens to what I say.

Earlier today I informed Kaelin that it was time for her nap.  She immediately goes into the bedroom, and I’m thinking is she seriously agreeing to go take a nap without making me chase her down?  That’ll be a first.

But before I can follow her, she turns around and comes trotting out toward the living room.  “Oops, I forgot,” I hear her say to herself.  “I forgot to hide!”

Sigh.

Actually,

Yesterday J walked into the kitchen while Kaelin and I were enjoying our respective bowls of Cheerios.

J: “Are you guys eating some O’s?”

Kaelin: “Actually, we’re eating cereal.”

You know how sometimes when you’re on the phone and it will start echoing – and all of a sudden you can hardly talk to the other person because you’re so distracted by listening to everything you say repeated back to you with a 2-second delay?

That’s totally what it’s like to take Kaelin to Subway and try to order a sandwich.

Hey, thanks for all the name suggestions you guys!  I’ve tagged a couple that I like and have added them to my “list.”  Perhaps this kid will get a name before he’s born after all 🙂

Might Want to Consider Fleshing Out the Plot Line

“Mama, want me to tell at story about Dora?”

“Sure.”

“Once upon a time, there was … DORA. The end.”

Getting Desperate

“Can I watch TV?”
“No.”
“I can’t?”
“No.”
“Can I watch Bob the Builder?”
“No.”
“Can I watch Boz?”
“No.”
“What can I watch?”
“Nothing.”
“…Can I watch Boring TV*?”

*Boring TV is what we call it when Mama and Daddo watch the news.

Good Morning

I heard Kaelin talking in her room this morning so I opened the door to say good morning.

“Is it light outside yet?”
“Yes it is.  Would you like to get up?”

She thought about it for a minute.  Then she stuck her finger up her nose.

“I’m gonna get a booger and give it to YOU.”

Um…thanks… ?

Loves Her Kitty

The crush is mutual.  Well you know, if you consider mutual to be “extreme tolerance and the mindset that if you put up with her long enough eventually she’ll get bored and go away.”

Unfortunately for him, that theory hasn’t proven itself true yet.

About Me

Hi. I'm Amy. I started this website in 2005 as a place to deposit my journal and photos. It has gone through a few incarnations and masquerades as a family site, but since I'm the only one who contributes to it, it's really all about ME, ME, ME.
